The Dawn Of The Band

If you talk about Toto you can't go earlier than this (well technically you can but I'm not focusing on that mess) after the success of the album "Silk Degrees" by Boz Scaggs, David Paich & Jeff Porcaro decide to make their own band, columbia record gives them a deal that consist of making four songs, if they like them they can work on an album if not well........

We know very little about those four songs, the only information avaliable says that none of them make it in the first album and we only know the name of two (All Us Boys & Miss Sun) however, I have the suspicion that the other two songs are "Jokers Back & Love Is A Mans World" (Jokers Back has never been released in any form).

The selection of the members of the band wasan't that hard for them, Steve Lukather was chosen since he was an old friend of Dave and Jeff, he play guitar on Love Is A Mans World as a type of audition and was chosen as the guitar player of the band shorly after.

David Hungae was pick up due to his involvement in the Silk Degrees as well as Steve Porcaro.

And finally Bobby Kimball, Bobby was the last member to join the band, information about how he join is a little contradictory, apparently he did an audition with the song "You Are The Flower" (written by himself) the boys seem to like it so he was accepted, but Bobby has also said that the first day he join the band the guys were working on "Girl Goodbye" so he did the audition and the start to working on Girl Goodbye or the other way around?.

Well enough history lesson, since the band was just forming (and didn't have a name) they were obviously no live performances, so this page only features demos, early mixes, edits and that kind of stuff, while the date of all of this is unknow, I don't think they are for 1977 since the sound is almost finish minus a few edits and aditions, but bootlegs collectors always claim they are from 1977 so for simplicity sake we're going to keem the date like that.

This bootlegs are very similar, but they have minor differences between each other.
